Meet Emily Cate Topczewski
Hi! I’m Emily Cate. I’m a writer at heart, but I also love telling stories through photos, video, and audio projects. I’m currently working on a new project, Driving Around Flyover Country, which will debut in Fall 2022.
My past lives include working in radio, politics, marketing, and scientific communications. In July 2019, I set out on the road with We the Voters, a passion project I had dreamt up years earlier because I truly believed there were stories that needed to be told. I had an inkling that we were more alike than different – and in interviews from Michigan to Maine, West Virginia to New Mexico, I learned just that.
When my work got upended during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was able to reassess my plans and come up with new projects for the future. Now, it’s finally time to begin.
It’s Emily Cate is my landing place as I dive deep into America’s Heartland now – and for many adventures to come. I write about life, politics, and lessons I learn along the way over on my Substack.
When I’m not working, I love to read memoirs, play pool, and watch basketball. (Bucks in 6!)
And yes, I still truly believe that most people are good.
Some Fun Facts About Me
I am an avid knitter – I learned when I was 7!
My sister and I used to play “Mississippi River” as kids, and now I dream of going down the river in a houseboat. (Someday!)
My favorite flowers are white daisies.
I love homemade pasta, corner bars, library visits, iced coffee, button-down shirts, and a fresh manicure.
I have visited 37 states and lived in 6 of them.
Camping, hummus, sushi, buffalo wings, beer, and coffee are all things I “hated” until I tried them as an adult.
