Driving Around Flyover Country

A newsletter and podcast series featuring interviews and observations across the Midwest. Sometimes referred to as “flyover country,” other times referred to as “America’s heartland,” the Midwest is filled with a diverse cross-section of Americans who play an influential role in national elections every four years.

In this project, I crack beers with factory workers, suburban moms, and everyone in between to understand what makes the Midwest tick.

I am a writer captivated by the human experience. My projects focus on creating connection and uncovering empathy, seeking to understand the many beautiful ways we are similar, the things that make us all human.

We the Voters

From 2019 to 2021, I worked on We the Voters, a multimedia interview project that sought to understand the many ways Americans are more alike than different. Over two years, I traveled to 27 states until my work was halted during the COVID-19 pandemic, sleeping in the back of my Honda CRV and interviewing everyone I met along the way.

This project included a newsletter, blog, photojournalism series, podcast series, and an active social media presence. I covered protests, community events, and everyday life across the United States.
